Jennifer M Ayres
Licensed Massage Therapist

My name is Jennifer Ayres, LMT, NCTMB. I completed my Massage Therapy Program and received an Associate of Science Degree from The Bryman School of Phoenix in Arizona, in 2005. Maryland requires a minimum of 500 hours of massage training in order to be licensed as a Massage Therapist. At The Bryman School I completed 1,310 hours and received my Maryland Massage License as well as my National Certification in 2006. I am also a member of ABMP, Associated Body & Massage Professionals.

My approach to massage is simple. Find the source of the problem and come up with an effective therapeutic treatment. Muscular and stress tension are obvious symptoms. It takes a closer look to find the cause of these symptoms. If the cause goes untreated, symptoms tend to continue or return and eventually get worse. That is why my focus centers on specific techniques that are tailored for the individual client.

I believe that the client-therapist relationship is a partnership where both parties work toward a common goal. There are short term goals that can be reached through a single session, such as acute pain or stress relief. And there are long term goals that can be reached over a series of sessions, such as increased range of motion, increased flexibility, and relief from chronic pain and/or stress. As with any partnership, there is work to be done by both parties. As the therapist, it is my responsibility to create an effective therapeutic treatment plan and apply it. As the client, it is your responsibility to change old or create new lifestyle habits that support your treatments and progress you towards your goals. This focus is ideal for clients who are maintaining athletic performance, have acute or chronic pain, or would like helping achieving personal fitness goals.

It’s not all about hardcore work. Through my years of practice I have seen that people are just too busy, overworked at the office and at home, over stimulated, over committed, and often burning the candle at both ends. When you come in for massage, for any of these reasons, it is your time, for you to just be. This is profoundly important. Time is valuable, in all cases, but in cases such as this your time is sacred. When you need a break from your daily demands the focus is to quietly slow things down. Through “listening” to what your body needs, I use techniques to help you quiet your mind and release your muscular tension caused by stress. This type of massage is great for anyone who could use a break and take time to just breathe!

Communication is key to making it all work. It is important to take time to talk with you about your reasons for coming in for a massage, answer any questions you have and discuss what you hope to gain out of the session. This is important to me because my goal with every session is to maximize the time we have together, and give you the best experience possible.
